This Rome place is in ruins!

 Somebody call a construction crew!

We had a busy day and we're really enjoying historic Rome.
Got to see all the major sites today: Spanish Steps,

Trevi Fountain,

the Forum, two basilicas, the Pantheon,

and the Colosseum.

We plan to go back for tours inside the last 2 when we return to Rome after the cruise.

After a long rest, we had a wonderful lunch at a tiny place by our rental apartment:
Gnocchi, homemade ravioli, a Parma ham panini (omg!) and a veggie omelet. Big bowl of homemade bread and water "with gas".
Then we started walking to all those points of interest. Got some Gelato, and later some aperitifs: Aperol spritz for Sarah and Limoncello spritz for Sam, all in view of the Colosseum.

Dinner was wonderful at another outdoor restaurant on the street just a block from our rental! We started with a huge antipasti plate of cheeses, meats,  olives and delicious breads.

Then on to pasta, including carbonara (Sarah, with twirly pasta}, ragu bologna nonna (for me), and amitriciana with fettucini (for Sam).

Amy had a salad.

Here are some pictures of our rental apartment, called Maison degli Specchi (House on the Street of Mirrors)

Three flights of small stairs- no elevator! Quite a workout getting our 3 huge suitcases up there.

Tomorrow we head to our cruise from Civitavecchia, the Cruise port for Rome, which is 90 minutes away by private taxi.

Lots of pictures should follow from there after we get settled in and figure out the wifi. And I'll tell you why we hate Norse Air.

Ciao!
